What is ACAT

In June 2005, the Airport Community Advisory Team (ACAT) was established to help the TTAD Board of Directors address the impact of the Truckee Tahoe Airport on the surrounding community.  Made up of three pilots and three non-pilots, this advisory panel is key to fostering connections between the airport and the community.

ACAT's mission statement is:
Armed with community input, the ACAT's mission is to make recommendations to the TTAD Board for reducing the impact of Airport operations on our neighbors, and enhancing benefits to the community-at-large.

With the goal of turning input into action, ACAT seeks potential solutions from stakeholders, as well as through less formal channels.  Effective and open communications between the airport and the community are essential in this effort.

Since its formation, ACAT has held focus groups, surveyed residents and businesses, and conducted public meeting, among other efforts.

Among its specific accomplishments to reduce noise and annoyance in the community, ACAT has...

  • Developed over 90 potential noise mitigation and abatement solutions for analysis and evaluation
  • Recommended the District Board of Directors implement 12 initiatives regarding:
  • FAA regulations and noise studies
  • Noise abatement and mitigation programs
  • Pilot training and education
  • Media and communications strategy
  • Facilities improvement
  • Airport-subsidized aircraft modifications
  • Convened a panel of local pilots to gather their concerns and discuss potential solutions
  • Published numerous informational articles in the Sierra Sun; public documents outlining strategic goals and accomplishments; and reports documenting noise modeling efforts, future trends in aviation, and investigation into airport stakeholders and their concerns. See ACAT Reports »

The ACAT meetings are open to the public, and are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at in the airport administration building.  Public comments and questions are welcome, and may be submitted via email at acat@truckeetahoeairport.com.
